Moran Iron Works Partners with Mio Public Schools to Train Students

ONAWAY, MICH. -Moran Iron Works (MIW) and Mio AuSable School District have announced a partnership agreement aimed at engaging students in the welding trade. Under the agreement, MIW will provide hands-on opportunities to students interested in pursuing a career in welding.

MIW will offer shop tours, demonstrations, and scrap material for students to work with. They will also offer summer positions or work programs as available and a chance to assist with a small project or task. In exchange the school agrees to offer a selection of senior students considering welding as a career path.

“The Teaming Agreement is a formal handshake and continues almost two decades of cooperation between the Mio Schools and Moran Iron Works,” said Tom Moran, Founder and CEO of Moran Iron Works. “This agreement is our commitment to take their positive culture and steadfast pursuit of effective instruction in skilled trades to another level in the next number of years.”

He continued, “The Skilled Trades Instructor, Tim McFalda, has been a shining star and a model teacher who deserves recognition for the decades of his dedication to the crafts and education. He has had the support of several administrations over the years proving the commitment that school has for our youth and for our region.”

The partnership will provide students with hands-on training in a real-world welding environment, allowing them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

"Having the opportunity for our students to tour MIW and the Industrial Arts Institute is a great benefit to their education,” stated Tim McFalda, Mio AuSable Skilled Trades Instructor. “Our Welding program would not exist without Tom's generosity. My budget does not allow me to purchase steel and Tom has played a huge part in keeping the Welding program alive and well at Mio AuSable Schools. We look forward to expanding the relationship we have developed over the years and are ready for the future.”

The partnership between MIW and Mio AuSable Schools is part of a broader effort to address the shortage of skilled workers in the welding industry. By providing hands-on training, mentorship, and deepening interest in welding the partnership aims to inspire the next generation of welders and help students achieve their career goals.

“In a world of career challenges, we are striving to provide students with the opportunity to find a career in welding. It’s a win-win for all,” stated Moran.
